 Maintenance

Caring for hair extensions is a little different to caring for your normal hair. You have to follow the after care tips from your salon very carefully, otherwise they will not last as long as they should, which is rather a waste of time and money. Remember too that you can have extensions curled and highlighted and so on, but this must be done professionally and is not really something you should try on your own at home.

Hair extensions should not be more than twice the length of your normal hair. Never go to bed with them wet, but always tie your hair up when sleeping, this will help prevent tangling and other such problems. Run your fingers through the extensions to get rid of tangles, doing so regularly will help prevent them too. Don't brush harshly and tug at the extensions, as this can loosen and damage the bonds which hold them to your scalp. When you brush, use a brush with soft bristles and work your way up from the bottom to the top, using the brush gently.

It is best not to spray the extensions with sillicone based products as they can cause the braids to slip out of place

Damage caused by extension today usually occurs as a result of neglect or mistreatment of hair.  If a clients takes 8 months to have their hair checked, then there will be tangling as a result of the excessive hair growth which could lead to breakage..

Regular 3-monthly maintenance sessions can avoid this. Wild Fire believes in a proper after care program with the correct products, tools and knowledge.

To keep extensions in the best conditions possible, one has to use the correct brushes, shampoos, conditioners and treatments.

Frequently asked Questions and Answers

When people enquire about extensions they normally ask me the following questions:

Question 1

Will hair extensions damage my hair?

No, the bond has no glue nor plastic substance so with proper care it will not damage your hair at all.  We will advice you every step of the way until you are comfortable with after care.

Question 2

Can I colour my hair?
Yes you can.  Because Wild Fire hair use virgin hair – an there is no synthetic particles, you can colour, wash and blow as normal.

Question 3

How many strands will I need?

That depends first of all on the thickness of your own hair.  Secondly, the length of your own hair and the length of the extensions that you want.

Question 4

Do they cut hair from dead people’s heads?

No that will be unacceptable.  The donor is always alive and they sell their hair in a business manner.

Question 5

What is a good length for my extensions?

Well, that is a personal decision.  If you have short hair we recommend that you gradually go longer with each maintenance session until you are use to the length.  The transition is then also not to drastic.

Question 6

How long do hair extensions last?

The extensions can last until your hair is the same length but you need to care for it as if it is your own hair.  Never damage hair with excessive colouring and blow-drying.
